"Nothing says 'Love' like a clean house"

Valentine's Day is when we go out of our way to show loved ones just how much we care. Flowers, chocolates, candlelight dinners, thoughtful prose, romantic romps...so many ways to impress! But isn't it a little tough to make a good impression if your house is filthy?

Oscar says: "Your vacuum is NOT a gragabe can!"

Aside from the fact that your home deserves some love too, show thoughtfulness to your Valentine by ensuring that their surroundings are clean and comfortable. Set the stage! But before you light those candles and turn on Barry White, you must make sure that there are no hidden offenses lurking to turn off your mate...

Obvious:
Dirty dishes, socks on the floor, toilet seat, scattered newspapers, overflowing trash, etc.

Not-So Obvious: Smelly fridge, grimy shower, hairy couch, stale mattress and/or pillows, un-fresh air.

Here are 3 fast fixes for some unsettling, often overlooked, circumstances:

1.) If you have pets, vacuum your furniture! Nobody likes to spend half a week's pay on snazzy new duds, only to come up with Fido’s fur stuck to their bum.

2.) Air out your bed and vacuum the mattress. (In fact, every morning it’s best to flap back your blankets and make the bed last, just before you leave. That leaves time for your mattress and pillows to air-out, especially in the warmer months if you open the bedroom window for a while.) And of course, make sure your linens are freshly washed!

3.) Everyone appreciates the power of smell...good and bad! Once you have established a truly "clean slate" in your home, feel free to add some refreshing fragrance. Save vacuuming the floors for last...then suck up a small amount of fragrance granules like Featherlite or VacYum. The warm exhaust of your vacuum will diffuse a wonderful aroma, just in time for your special guest to arrive. Another idea to save for last-minute: Spritz down your bathroom and/or kitchen counters with an aromatherapeutic cleaning spray like Mrs. Meyer's. Take a breath of the relaxing scent, and rest assured that these surfaces are sparkly-clean and smelling impressive.

So now that we’ve cleared the air about some of the potentially romance-killing conditions in your home, we wish you a very happy, successful Valentine’s Day!
